Parental support

We offer parental support where the focus is on finding strategies to create a better climate at home and thus reduce nagging and conflicts. Children can be difficult at times, test boundaries and push for attention. What worked in the past may not work anymore.

We will guide, advise and support you in the challenges of parenting. Sometimes parents are encouraged to come alone and sometimes the child can be present during certain parts of the visit. We also offer family counseling when we feel it is most helpful. Parental involvement in the child's treatment is an important success factor.

It can often be important to discuss strategies and approaches with someone outside the family and/or circle of friends in order to get more energy, affirmation and suggestions for change. Research studies show that the most effective way for parents to reduce conflict and problem behaviors is to have a good relationship characterized by warmth with time for each other and focus on what works well. Sometimes parents may need support to find their way there.

We also offer parental support for recurring problems that parents may face. In concrete terms, this can mean getting support in how to deal with the challenges your child faces when starting kindergarten and school, for example, or support in dealing with acting-out children or children with special diagnoses. We have extensive experience of working therapeutically with children, adolescents and parents. Especially children with acting out behaviors and/or neuropsychiatric difficulties such as ADHD or difficulties within the autism spectrum.

As the seemingly tired cliché that "small children are small problems and "big children are big problems" proves to be a truth for many, it is also common for people who have children in their teens to need extra support in their parenting role due to the challenges that this age can bring. Parents may also have specific questions about, for example, children's behavior and development in general.
